ARAVALLIS

With the fall of the 2.5-billion-year-old Aravalli Mountain Range northwest India loses its final line of defence against desertification, water scarcity, and climatic stability for millions.

The widespread deforestation and intensive mining that has devastated the 692-kilometer range now is infiltrating the southern-most stretch, which endures as the lush, bio-diverse home of the ancient Bhil tribal community. The fate of the Bhil cultural and spiritual identity lies in the vitality of these mountains just as the protection of the mountains depends on the endurance of the ecologically grounded Bhil way of life.  We work to nurture economic alternatives rooted in local knowledge, practice, and culture to restore the resilience of the tribal community and, together, the landscape.
